People need help, they need you. As Richard Foster rightly says, 'Marriages are being shattered. Children are being destroyed. Individuals are living lives of quiet desperation, without purpose or future. And we can make a difference…. if we learn to pray on their behalf.'
Foster makes a powerful case for an area that each of us can and should grow in-Intercessory Prayer. He continues, 'Intercessory prayer is selfless prayer, even self-giving prayer…In the ongoing work of the Kingdom of God, nothing is more important than Intercessory Prayer.' P. 191 Prayer, Foster.
We bear fruit where we focus. Any of us would get bogged down with ten or more suggestions on how to grow or improve in any given area. So this article is to both inform you of several ways you can take your spiritual journey to next level, as well as, let you know upcoming classes, special worship, and a new series for a new decade and a new year. Here are a few areas to help us 'Grow Up' in Christ:
  • Prayer– Please don't miss this weekend as we focus on Trusting God. One key element is how we trust God with our prayers. Most people limit their prayers to personal petitions. That's fine as a new Christians, yet we will get stuck in our spiritual growth when we limit our prayers to our needs instead of others. 'When we move from petition to intercession we are shifting our center of gravity from our own needs to the needs and concerns of others' writes Foster. This is a process but my own personal formula is when our personal petitions begin to decrease below 50% of our prayer time and our intercession for others increases above 50% of our prayer time. In other words, I will have more needs of others on my prayer list than me and my immediate family.
  • Upper Room meets every Tuesday night at the Mt. View Campus at 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. This is an informal yet intentional time to intercede for others, our community and pray for healing. This Tuesday night the Fairgrove Campus will lead the prayer time.
  • One Year Bible-I've seen more One Year Bible's being purchased since this series began as we have lifted up the need for each of us to read God's word daily. When you read God's Word daily you are hearing the voice of God through the Holy Spirit and seeking revelation and application for each day. We send out daily devotions at Christ Church via email with the OYB reading and a five-minute devotion based on the readings.
  • Travel: 'The world is a book, and those who don't travel only read one page.' St. Augustine of Hippo spoke these words nearly 16 centuries ago. They are more true now than ever. Since 2015 we've had nearly 100 persons in the Holy Land and several on the Journeys of Paul. Every person comes back different, inspired and more excited to read the Bible as it has come to life for them.
  • The Trip of a Life Time – The Holy Land and Oberammergau trip will be July 13-25, 2020. Julie and I will be hosting truly a trip of a life time as we are going to both places. Six powerful days in the Holy Land, and then we fly to Germany, spend time in Salzburg, Austria, and visit the site where the Sound of Music was filmed. The trip begins in a powerful way by visiting the footsteps of Jesus and the disciples, and culminates with a powerful Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany. The Black Plague killed hundreds of thousands in Europe but the people in this village in Germany prayed for God to spare them and when God answered their prayer they committed in 1634 to produce a Passion Play telling the story of Christ's birth, death and resurrection to change lives! Julie and I will host an info meeting on the Holy Land/Oberammergau Trip Sunday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Mt. View in the Triple Divided Room and Monday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at Northside Campus in the Coffee Bar.
  • Christmas is not your birthday – at least for most of us. So think of packing a Samaritan's shoe box, or be really courageous in the faith and shop for another family in need, spending only half on your family and the other half on a needy family. Pray for them by name and invite them to worship.
  • Invite personsChristmas Worship- Saturday, November 30 at 6 p.m. We will combine our gifted vocalists, band, and worship leaders from all of our campuses on Saturday night at 6 p.m. for a powerful worship service to prepare your heart for Advent and this amazing gift of God's incarnate love in Jesus. The theme for our Advent season is, 'No Darkness'. There will not be a more powerful worship experience at Christ Church than this one when all the campuses are coming together at Mt. View to prepare for the birth of the Christ Child.
  • New Year-Combined Services at Hickory Convention Center on Sunday, January 5 at 10 a.m. We are preparing for more spaces so invite a friend to join you as we come together as One Church with One Mission to 'Reach Millions of unchurched persons by developing thousands of fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ' on Sunday, January 5.
As we prepare for this Thanksgiving season please know how much Julie and I love you and your family,
Pastor Charles

Life Group Spotlight: Young Adult Life Groups

Nitorinc.: touhou microgames! mac os. What defines a 'young adult'? A young adult is an individual, between the ages of 18 and 30 years of age. A young adult experiences a great deal of life change from graduating high school to attending college or beginning a career, to getting married and starting a family.

Almost all of our Christ Church campuses have at least one young adult life group led by young adults. Some groups offer childcare and all welcome young adult married couples without children and young adult singles. These groups study the Bible along with the sermon series, serve the community and have fun talking local trips, playing board games or having dinner together. Online casino blackjack. Who better to have walking alongside you, other than Jesus, than a life group peer – someone who 'gets it' – when going through a challenging season or celebrating a life transition.
